The Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) Initiative is a multiyear endeavor designed to develop regional influence to specified communities and cities within the broader area. The Initiative seeks to revitalize the landscape of civic engagement in Southeast Los Angeles and as a result, refresh the policy decision-making environment in the region.

La Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) Initiative (Iniciativa del Sureste de Los Ángeles (SELA) es un esfuerzo de varios años que se ha diseñado para desarrollar influencia regional en comunidades y ciudades específicas dentro del área en general. La Iniciativa busca reavivar el entorno del compromiso cívico en el Sureste de Los Ángeles y, como resultado, refrescar el ambiente de la toma de decisions políticas en la región.

The Southeast Los Angeles Collaborative (SELA Collaborative) is a group of stakeholders who have joined together to strengthen Southeast Los Angeles. The mission of the Southeast LA (SELA) Collaborative is to create an infrastructure in the region capable of supporting the nonprofit sector and the community engagement efforts of residents and organizations, all of which will maximize their power and their ability to more effectively address local issues. By doing so, the Collaborative seeks to foster a community with an informed, engaged, and empowered focus.

La Southeast Los Angeles Collaborative (SELA Collaborative (Colaborativa del Sureste de Los Ángeles (Colaborativa SELA) es un grupo de partes interesadas quienes se han reunido para fortalecer el sureste de Los Ángeles. La misión de la Southeast LA (SELA) Collaborative es crear una infraestructura en la región que es capaz de apoyar el sector sin fines de lucro y los esfuerzos de los residentes y las organizaciones para invitar la participación comunitaria, para maximizar su poder y su habilidad de abordar más eficazmente los problemas locales. Al hacer esto, la Colaborativa busca fomentar una comunidad informada, comprometida y empoderada.

SELA Transportation:
Critical Choices Ahead – A Summary Report
- The Transportation Summit was built on the premise that sound academic research can inform and empower community stakeholders and illuminate the key decisions that lie ahead for SELA. Helping to frame the conversation for the day, USC Professor Genevieve Giuliano presented her research and analysis of SELA’s transportation system and the area’s socioeconomic profile.

- On Thursday, November 9th, over 250 community leaders, public officials, and residents from Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) gathered for the 2017 SELA Transportation Summit: Critical Choices Ahead. SELA, a traditionally overlooked area in Los Angeles County, is set to undergo major transportation-related changes and receive newfound attention in the years ahead. The Summit put a spotlight on the key decisions facing the community, local civic leaders, and policymakers and the ways in which transportation can help to reshape the community at large.

- The event presented a historic study, "Central 710 FWY Corridor – An Asset Based Analysis." The research marks the first time in recent years that a look at the positive attributes of these cities has been explored. Following the presentation, a panel of local civic leaders and experts shared their impressions of the report's implications and generated an open dialogue with the audience.
