The Institute has a long practice of conducting community-based applied research. The Institute’s research programs have the distinction of often being formulated in partnership with, or in response to, community-based concerns and help to generate an informed public dialogue.

The Institute’s research reports assist community leaders in their efforts to advocate for public policy that improves their communities. Much of our work here revolves around social and economic issues such as civic engagement, health care, and transportation. Our research is focused largely on the Southern California region. The research process includes Cal State LA faculty members and students, and in some cases, the Institute’s high school youth leaders.
