On November 3rd, the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs at Cal State LA  hosted a media and community briefing to release findings from its PBI-Cal State LA Latino Poll. The poll, conducted for PBI by the nationally recognized firm Latino Decisions, surveyed 1,501 Latino registered voters in Los Angeles County. The findings provided key insights about Latino voters. Among the main findings on a range of national and local issues, the poll showed strong support for the closely watched Measure M, which requires a two- thirds vote to raise the sales tax to build out the public transportation system in Los Angeles County. The event included a presentation by Dr. Adrian Pantoja, senior analyst of Latino Decisions. Among those commenting on the results and their implications were Dr. Matt Baretto, director of Latino Decisions, and Dr. Raphael Sonenshein, executive director of Pat Brown Institute and director of the poll.

PBI-Cal State LA Polling History

The Institute has had a long practice of conducting community-based applied research.  Unlike other research programs, the Institute’s research programs have the distinction of often being formulated in partnership, or in response to community-based concerns.  As such, the Institute’s research reports are useful documents that help communities advocate for public policy that improves the lives of their constituents.  To the extent possible, the research process includes Cal State LA faculty members and students, and currently some of our youth leadership students.  In addition to producing research reports, the Institute administers a polling program.  The PBI-CalStateLA polls survey racial/ethnic groups in LA county and their civic participation and orientation.
